About OpenDomain.name
A fast, honest domain search tool — no logins required, no upsells, no noise.
What it is
OpenDomain.name is a domain name search tool that helps you find available domains quickly. Type a word or phrase, and it instantly generates name ideas across popular TLDs — then checks each one for availability in real time.
Unlike most domain search tools, OpenDomain.name doesn't bury results under ads, upsell you on add-ons at checkout, or inflate prices. It just tells you what's open.
How the search works
Most domain search tools rely on paid third-party APIs to check availability. OpenDomain.name takes a different approach: it queries Cloudflare's public DNS over HTTPS service directly from your browser.
Every registered domain has nameserver (NS) records in the global DNS. If a domain returns NXDOMAIN — meaning no DNS record exists — it hasn't been registered. No API key needed, no per-query cost, no middleman.
Suggestions are generated locally using a lightweight JavaScript algorithm that combines your keyword with common prefixes, suffixes, and TLD variants. It runs instantly, with zero network calls.
Why it's free
OpenDomain.name earns a small commission when you purchase a domain through one of the registrar links. The price you pay is exactly the same — the registrar shares a portion of their margin with us for the referral. This keeps the tool free for everyone with no subscriptions, no ads, and no data selling.

Accuracy
DNS-based availability checks are highly accurate for most domains. Occasionally a domain may show as available when it's in a redemption period, or show as taken when DNS hasn't fully propagated. Always verify at the registrar before purchasing.
